The method of the individualized instruction model fits the needs of students and learners by adjusting the pace of instruction. Technology is advancing at a much faster rate than education. Currently, the conversation is being held about how we can prevent education from continuing to fall behind the development of technology. Lectures have a stigma of the traditional transfer model, while the digital world is intriguing and allows for discovery and self-teaching. Lectures must be adjusted to the fast-paced learning environment of today. Pacing is extremely important in my course. Teaching choir students how to conduct a 60-minute independent practice consists of providing time for students to master concepts at their own pace, but also for fast-paced students to develop and expand upon ideas. When practicing, you can use one concept and increase the intensity of the practice when proficient. Ideally, learners would practice the exercises at their own pace throughout the week. This is also an example of using the UBD model to create learning opportunities for students. Establishing goals with your team and your audience is very helpful. It gives direction to your learners and increases their focus at all ages. As a leader, knowing your purpose will show through your instruction. A learner must know where they are going in order to take the proper steps to get there. This is crucial for online learning. The importance of online learning for students is highlighted by students being able to take ownership of their education. Additionally, students now have the opportunity to still get their education when they aren’t able to physically make it to school. The overall takeaway from this course is that the world is indeed moving digital at a rapid pace, and the benefits of online instruction are prominent. In addition to launching my course to my choir students, I will increase the number of online resources I provide to my students. I don’t give homework in music, but I can now provide additional information for those interested through an LMS!
