Prior to creating this UBD template, I developed a learning outcomes table based off Fink's model from A Self-Directed Guide to Designing Courses for Significant Learning. This 3 column table and the UbD models both focus primarily on the results. The slight difference in this area is that the 3 column table keys in on the overall outcomes of different levels of Bloom's Taxonomy while the UbD model aggressively establishes goals based on standards. The UbD Model also takes more of a visit to procedure and lesson planning than Fink's model. I conclude that the Learning outcomes table is a look from the outside while the UbD model is a look from the inside. As a musician, I prefer Fink's 3- column table because it provides a look from the outside in. I like to focus more on the outcome and the desired results rather than following a specific plan and order of operations to get there. Both models contribute to my innovation plan in a major way because students need to feel comfortable knowing what to practice and upload to their e-portfolio. The Learning outcomes table showcases my desired results and provides an overview of learning activities through each level of blooms, while the UbD model provides a detailed plan for students to get comfortable knowing what to practice.
