LMEA: Local Music Educators Association ( PL Outline )

Updated: Apr 6, 2021

Effective professional development for musicians!

My innovation plan highlights how the utilization of electronic portfolios benefits the learning of music students. My influencer model describes how I chose certain teachers as key influencers to create their own ePortfolios to model to students. Now it is time to expand locally and effectively train the other music teachers in the district!

  • How will you foster collaboration?

I will foster collaboration in four different ways.

1. Each professional development session will consist of a guest presenter. A music teacher from each campus will get an opportunity to present an interactive music lesson, activity, and/or game that they utilize in their classroom. (Key Principles 3,4,5)

2. The music teachers will play the role of the students and participate in the activity. (Key Principles 2,3)

3. The Key Influencers on my campus will assist in sharing their experience with ePortfolios. (Key Principles 2)

4. There will be an interactive google doc for collaboration in between PL sessions. (Key Principles 2,5)

  • Who will lead what components?

The PL will consist of two components: Electronic portfolio professional development and the guest presentation. I will host each session and will provide a short presentation about using ePortfolios in music. A music teacher from another campus will lead a presentation that shares an interactive activity. (Key Principles 3,4,5)

  • Audience and their needs

There are 10 music teachers total in the district. (4 elementary music teachers, 2 band directors plus the choir director at both the middle school and high school) along with the ancillary teachers on our campus. This professional development is aimed to provide musical support for them throughout the school year, as well as continued support for my team on campus in incorporating technology in their programs. (Key Principles 2,5)

  • Instructional Design of your PL

The specials teachers are the key influencers on my campus. They will help me expand the message of incorporating technology to foster self-directed learning to the other campuses in our district.

I will use the BAG & 3 Column table for the instructional design of the professional learning.

My Big Audacious Goal is to provide 100% ongoing and effective professional development to all music teachers in the district throughout the entire school year, resulting in educators building and incorporating their own e-portfolio. (Key Principles 1)

LMEA 3 column table:

  • Schedule/timeline

The professional learning will take place throughout the entire school year. I have decided that it will be effective to have a physical PL once every 6 weeks grading period. In addition to the meetings, there will be an interactive google document available for all participants to ask/answer questions or add resources to any time. This amounts to six total professional development sessions throughout the year with time to practice incorporating new techniques, along with an ongoing collaborative support system all school year round. (Key Principles 1,2)

  • Types of resources you will need

My innovation plan/other work and research from my ePortfolio, professional guests, instruments, videos, google docs, social distance friendly location, air play compatibility. Teachers will need to bring their laptop/iPad, and any means of note taking to each session. (Key Principles 2,3,4,5)
